Get to Know the Team: Michelle Kelly

This post is a little different than most on this blog. This is the first in a new series, Get to Know the Team, where we will introduce you to the members of our condominium law team. First up is Michelle Kelly. Practice Areas Michelle works solely in the area of condominium law. She acts primarily for condominium corporations, but also assists unit owners and managers with condominium related issues. Her work focuses on the day-to-day issues, such as drafting and reviewing documents (like the declaration, by-laws and rules), negotiating and facilitating resolutions for shared facilities disputes, and attending owners' meetings. She also provides opinions on condominium legal issues, like repair/maintenance obligations, human rights and accessibility issues, and implementing sub-metering in the units. Recently, Michelle has been spending much of her time on amalgamations for condominiums across Ontario, including in Waterloo, Kitchener, Guelph, London, Burlington and elsewhere. The process is time-consuming, but her clients report significant cost savings within the few years following amalgamation. Michelle has also been working on several 'high-level' enforcement matters for her condominium clients. We consider 'high-level' enforcement matters to be those involving the police, such as homicides on the property, drug dealing and drug use, and prostitution and human trafficking. Unfortunately, these issues are more common than you would believe and they can happen in any condominium. Involvement Michelle has been involved in the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI) for over ten years, serving on various committees and serving as a director for the Golden Horseshoe, London and Grand River Chapters from time to time. You may have seen her speaking at one of the conferences or seminars as she is a frequent speaker at industry events. She is currently a director for the Grand River Chapter and is seeking re-election at the AGM in 2019 (she would appreciate your support). Personal Michelle spends most of her spare time with her two young sons, husband, family and friends. She enjoys reading, golfing, travelling, watching cartoons with her sons, and baking vegan treats with her sons. She is most excited about an upcoming Disney trip she has planned. If you see her out and about with her boys be sure not to mention the trip since she hasn't told her boys yet! Contact Most days you will find Michelle working from home, but you can easily reach her via email or phone. Email is normally the easiest way to connect as she is regularly in meetings, at mediation/arbitration, or attending an AGM. For more information, please see the firm's website: www.rcllp.ca
